MASS THESIS

Mass is an exploration of our primal needs - to find belonging and compete at the same time.

Getting a Cartier bracelet to fit in with all the other moms is the upper west side is equivalent of jumping into a gang. you just pay differently.

That’s why we put luxury iconography on such a violent sculpture, because religions, gangs, and brands can all serve as ways to belong.

This piece talks about how one of our most basic needs - to be seen and heard - is now being sought after in a post-consumerist culture. Brands now have become micro religions, and sometimes are becoming where people go to seek the fulfillment they need from spiritual practice, but you can’t fill a wine glass with water.

I want to bring awareness that we may be struggling because we are seeking fulfillment in things or external approval, which I believe cannot give us long-lasting peace.
